As well as being a fully certified Pets As Therapy dog, it's important that Bella also gets her leisure time! She loves walks, playing with other dogs, and is always ready to receive fussing and attention from humans too. Her favourite hobby though is having a splash around in the water! Luckily, we are not far from rivers in Radlett and we try to get to a dog-friendly beach when we can so Bella can have a good swim. Bella is a great listener as a therapy dog and totally understands confidentiality within the therapy room....so you can rest assured that she will also abide by this! She also helps children and adults who have a fear of dogs (Cynophobia).
Pets As Therapy is a national charity working towards improving the health and wellbeing of communities across the UK. They believe that the companionship of an animal is something everyone should have access to, regardless of their circumstances.
Animal-assisted therapy can be used in a variety of environmental settings such as in schools, hospitals, prisons, offices and at home.
The presence of a dog can offer some the encouragement they need to get up and move and work harder.
Having a dog in a therapy setting can help clients to understand boundaries as dogs can be very comforting and self-soothing.
Engaging with a dog to play can help boost a client's self-worth and improve their mood by promote a sense of belonging and being noticed whilst increasing their oxytocin, serotonin and dopamine levels.
With a dog a client may feel like they have another person to confide in, someone to share their secrets with without feeling judged whilst being distracted from any troubles they may be facing.
